my sister’s wedding

As some of you might know, my sister got married this weekend!  Their wedding was at the Moody Mansion in Galveston, and it was just beautiful.  My uncle performed the ceremony, which was really lovely and thoughtful.  The flowers were amazing–unfortunately I did not get a photo and my Maid of Honor bouquet was lost in the shuffle, so I can’t show you!  But they were arrangements of lilies, hydrangea, orchids, and pale pink roses.  Oh, and her dress!

I think this is probably the prettiest wedding dress I’ve ever seen.  It was a perfect 1930s style, champagne-colored, floor length silk dress.  You might recognize her necklace.  I was really honored that she wore it!  Inside the necklace was a Mercury dime–it has been the tradition for all the women in my family to wear the dime in one of their shoes at their wedding, but Laura’s shoes were strappy sandals, so the locket made a good place for it.  The original dime that our mothers wore was lost, but the replacement is another Mercury dime from my late grandfather’s coin collection.  So, in my opinion, it’s twice as lucky!

Their first dance was to Etta James’ “At Last” and the Father/Daughter, Mother/Son dance was to “All You Need is Love.”

And I gave a speech!  I don’t know if I’ve ever been so nervous in my life, but I did it!  I got a lot of compliments on it, too.  The funny thing is, everyone came up to me later and said how I didn’t look nervous at all.  Ha!

Oh, and an impromptu dance party broke out!  My cousin Megan and I were chatting out in the foyer, and the DJ was playing some great music, and we sort of started dancing as we talked…before you know it, pretty much everyone was out there!  It was SO fun.

They did this funny thing where, when it came time to toss the garter, at the last minute they switched places and Paul was wearing the garter, and Laura took it off him!  It was great.  There was a lot of contention for the bouquet, but in the end Paul’s sister Erika caught it.

At the end, they had bubbles for everyone to blow as they walked out to the limo.  It was hilarious–I have never seen a group of adults get so excited over bubbles.  It was really cute.

The wedding was lovely and SO fun, and I am really happy for Laura and my new brother-in-law, Paul.  I adore them both and I am very happy that they found each other.
